Your 7th Grade “A” Football Team accepted the challenge back in September to commit to excellence on the field, and finished its’ final obstacle on Tuesday Night at “The Doc” (Dr. J.E. Marr stadium on the campus of Everman High School).
As the clock ticked down on a decisive 46-6 victory over the Huskies of Burleson Hughes, the Bulldogs completed an undefeated season (8-0-1 overall, 5-0-1 in district) and secured its’ 3rd straight Quad County District Championship!!
Outstanding offensive performances turned in by QB Gaylon McNeal, TB Montrevian Cushionberry, TB Michael Turner, and TB Deon Jones gave the Bulldogs a lead that would never be in jeopardy. Hard running demonstrated by WB Kingston Willis and FB Jonathan Franklin-Cunningham secured victory on 2 point conversions throughout the offensive exhibition.
The stingy, rally to the ball mentality of the defense kept Burleson’s offense off of the field, and allowed for McNeal and the Bulldogs to score at will. “We were tested several times throughout the year,” first year assistant coach Demorick Walker began, ” but this team always found ways to be successful. We were disappointed with the tie against Aledo, but the kids learned from it. Two weeks later we shut out our toughest opponent Brewer Middle, 17-0.”
Many of the football players will begin off season training to improve for 8th grade competition next year. We are excited about the future with these talented players. Of note was that this group worked extremely hard in the classroom, as well. Not a single “A” Team player was ruled academically ineligible due to grades this season. That feat and winning district definitely make it a great day to be a Bulldog.
